For a good few years now I’ve been a big fan of using pellet mixes made up of pellets of different sizes. I like the theory that says fish are more likely to suck the hookbait in if they’re having to vary the power of their sucking to cope with the different sizes and therefore different weights of the pellets they’re feeding on. The theory suggests, too, that a hookbait will be less likely to stand out from the crowd if lying amongst a spread of pellets of different sizes. Include another variation, in that the pellet mix can be made up of different flavours of pellets as well as different sizes, and the theory may take on more weight.

Of course, another hypothesis is that it is better to deliberately make the hookbait stand out from the crowd (based on the fact that a blade of grass in a field can be hard to find) but all that is another debate and not for this review. Let’s just say that my personal preference is for the pellet variety rather than for them all being the same.


So how much variety do you go for, half a dozen different sizes in half a dozen different types (flavours)? That rules out buying in bulk then unless you have room for three dozen bulk sacks of pellets; let alone being able to use that lot before they go past a useable date.

So we have to be realistic and realise that buying in bulk is not an option. Unless that is we can find a supplier who will pre-mix the pellets……

Not cheap, but I think good value considering you’re not buying in bulk and they’re offering a really good variety of pellets from which you can choose. It doesn’t end there. For an extra £ 1.50 they will glug 1kg of your pellet mix with attractor oils, giving you the option of using this kilo of bait for hookbaits.
