Lakeview 1/7/01

A drizzly morning greeted the 21 anglers assembled to take part inthe 5th round match at Lakeview with the wind blowing to the islandend. Two sections were pegged with one round the island and one inopen water. The draw put Pete (the king of lakeview) Walker on peg 11in the open water away from his favourite island peg 5. For my sins Ihad drawn island peg 2, the same peg I’d blanked from in the winterleague.

The lake fished quite well overall with everyone catching but thetop spot went to league leader Graham Curnow (Clive’s Tackle). Drawnon corner peg 17 Graham used the pole with corn and meat to takemainly carp for an impressive 44lb 9oz and maximum section points toretain the pole position (geddit?). Just to prove that you can’t keepa good man down, Pete Walker (St Colunb Magic) secured the secondslot with an all carp bag totalling 28lb 4oz. At the next peg 13 (12was not in the draw) Ian Talbot (Lakeview) put 26lb 9oz on the scalesafter a late run on meat having switched from paste to complete theframe. Next door again at 14, Simon Poynter (Bill Knott Bookies)weighed 22lb 8oz of mainly skimmers for 4th overall and pick up thesection money. Just behind him came Matt Wilson (Phoenix) weighing in22lb 3oz from the golden peg 23 to claim a tenner with £82 stillin the kitty. With all the action in the open water section PhilWatters (Gwinear Peasants) took the island section with 19lb 12oz onthe feeder.

The league table is hotting up with Graham Curnow and Phil Wattersstill locked together at the top, Graham just ahead on weight. Thenext match in two weeks time is back at the popular Porth reservoirwith Simon Poynter the favourite to take the honours.
