Two excellent products here for specialist and carp anglers alike. One for lovers of fishing with sausages, poloni and luncheon meats and the other for those wishing to use the currently popular halibut pellets.

The Pellet Pegs are attached through the loop of a hair rig and the wide feet prevent the pellet or luncheon meat from slipping off the hair rig. Pellets have to first be drilled.

For the Meat Stop, Fox say, “The unique shape of the Meat Stop spreads the load away from the hair loop for better support.” There is also a tapered clear silicone tube included that fits over the hair to prevent it cutting through the meat.

The tube is first cut to 1mm less than the size of meat you wish to mount. The tube is then pulled onto the hair with a baiting needle where it remains and the meat is simply pushed up onto the tube then the stop fitted to the hair’s loop.

The large Pellet Pegs could be used for catfish pellets too!

Jeff Woodhouse’s VERDICT

I’ve been using the Pellet Pegs for some time now and I have to admit that my halibut pellets seem much more secure for having used them. I first thought they might be a gimmick against the use of a normal boily stop, but I have had the odd halibut pellet fall off in the past after water attacked the pellet and caused it to deteriorate around the hole.

These pegs stop all that and even after an hour or more in the water the peg is still holding the pellet in place really well. Because of the colour and the fact that they lay flat on the bottom of the pellet, I’m sure they won’t spook the fish in daylight as a boily stop might. I have also tried them for carp where they have worked really well and they also fool the barbel right enough so I can highly recommend them.

I have yet to try the Meat Stop as the local dealer didn’t stock them at first, I have only just got some, but I would imagine they will work just as well if you prefer to hair rig your meat baits.
