Being fed up with flooded and out of form rivers, fellow FISHINGmagic contributors Paul Williams and Rik Belenger visited a day ticket commercial stillwater in the Midlands in search of the venues 2lb-plus roach and 3lb-plus perch.

Paul and his 2lb 4oz perch
West Midlands specialist and SWAG (Specialist Web Anglers Group) member Paul fed an inside line next to reeds with caster for a good mixed bag of fish including about 10 roach over a pound to a biggest of 1lb 8oz.

Southampton specialist Rik, also a member of SWAG, fished at about 1 1/2 rod’s length at the base of a shelf, feeding mixed seeds and caster for a mixed but predominantly skimmer bag with the best fish being a bream of about 3lb and a roach at 1lb 8oz.

Paul also landed one of the venues big perch, this fell to a deadbait and this tipped the scales at 2lb 4oz. Not to be outdone, Rik landed one at 2lb 6oz and this succumbed to a roach head.

The Southern Adonis and his 2lb 6oz perch
They had a great day, catching lots of decent fish, and not even two hours of driving hail could dampen their spirits, nor did it stop the fish from biting.

Like many recent trips the amount of mud was unbelievable, but at least this time they have lasting memories of some excellent fishing.
