HARDWICK LAKE
John Finch was back on the water and despite catching the ‘Birthmark Mirror’ at 33.02 (That’s the second time he’s caught the fish this year) and a 14.02 common he went home disappointed.

Having played a big fish for a while it became lodged behind a gravel bar and couldn’t be moved – Roy and the boat were sent for and after getting above the big fish an epic fight ensued.

With the help of the bitterly cold winds and the fish, the boat did a circuit of the lake. After about twenty minutes of this the big carp was seen as it wallowed near the boat – with a flick of its tail the hook pulled out and ‘Cut Tail’ was gone.

Yes, it was ‘Cut Tail’ and John promptly went home devastated – he will be back though! (‘Cut Tail’ was caught at over 40lb last month).

Ian Poole finished the session we reported earlier with two more doubles and a superb mirror, distinctive by its very large scales, of 27.08.
