smiffrighooked.jpgNo. It was on a Smiffrig, which is dead simple!

Dave Smith showed me this rig of his some 5 or 6 years ago. Since then I use it all the time and for various species. Especially when chub or barbel fishing when you sometimes want to vary the approach. The beauty of the rig is, you can use it to switch between a conventional hook bait and a hair-rigged bait in seconds, without the need to re-tie a hook.

Tie up a half dozen before you go fishing and store them somewhere safe in your end-tackle box.

Take a hook. Tie it on and fish, say, a worm as bait. Want to switch to hair rigged pellets? Easy, remove the worm. Pull out a pre-tied smiffrig, thread the section of sillicone tubing onto the the hook and slide it up the shank. Hey presto! A hair rig, ready to take a couple of pellets.

The images shows a rig to take two pellets. I usually put six bands on mine in case one or two snap during a session or if I want to fish larger baits.
