Of all of the carp in Horton’s Church Lake the most awaited appearances over the past couple of seasons have been Scaley and the Thorpe Park Common. Both fish had been seen regularly and educated guesses put both fish at over the 40lb mark.

Thorpe Park Common to Craig Welch

The TP Common finally saw the bank on Tuesday as one of Horton’s top rods, Wolverhampton’s Craig Welch, trapped the fish from Frogger’s Corner at the back of the Church Bay. The fish was weighed in at a spawned out weight of 37lb 3oz and as you can see remains one of, if not the, most perfect ‘classic’ common carp in the country.
