Giving the reel a squirt of WD40

Prevention is the best cure, and if you were clever enough to coat your rods, reels and metal fishing equipment with WD-40 at the end of last season, then you are ahead of the game. If moisture and rust has gotten to your tackle over the long winter months in storage though, WD-40 is the perfect tool to clean it up and protect over the season ahead.

With loads of uses and the fact that it’s available in a variety of sizes it’s handy to always keep a can of WD-40 as part of your fishing equipment.

Advice comes from TV’s DIY expert ‘Handy’ Andy, an avid angler, on the best ways to use WD-40 when fishing for your dinner or simply for sport.

“I use WD-40 constantly when getting ready for a fishing trip,” said Andy. ” A coating of WD-40 helps keep my lures and flies corrosion and rust free.

“In addition, the spray lubricates fishing reel knobs and, at the end of a trip, I use WD-40 to drive out any moisture to keep the fishing tackle in good working order.

“I have also heard a number of tales of WD-40 being a great attractor for fish when sprayed on fishing hooks and bait, but I have only others feedback to go on for this as I’ve never tried it myself” he added.
