To date it has been usual for FishingMagic members to be invited to vote on their favourite article to assist the judges with their decision but this month: a) Given the poor response to voting last month and b) The fact there is one entry deemed by the judges to be quite simply outstanding we have decided to simply name the winner without further ado!

And that winner is Sean Meeghan for Loch Lomond Dreams – a poignant lament for the loss of a lifelong love which, if you have not yet read, we strongly suggest you do. Congratulations Sean for a marvellous piece of writing.

April’s winner may be a hard act to follow but the May competition is currently underway and all entries submitted before 31 May 2012 will be considered. This is the last month of the competition before the judging to decide the overall winner is decided so we are hoping for a strong finish! Don’t worry if you have not written before; if need be our editorial team will help to knock it into shape for you.

A reminder that the competition is open to anyone, irrespective of whether or not they have had features published on FishingMagic before; all we ask is that entrants are not regular writing contributors to the national angling media.

Features may be on any angling topic, fiction or non-fiction, humorous or serious, technical or story-based and on any angling discipline: coarse, sea or game.

Submissions should ideally be from 1,000 to 2,500 words in length and supplied as a Word document accompanied (if relevant) by four to eight JPG images to illustrate the words. It is hoped that grammar, spelling and punctuation will be of a reasonable standard but all will be corrected, if required, prior to publication on the site.

There is no limit to the number of features which entrants may submit per month and all features deemed by the FishingMagic Editor to be of an appropriate standard will be published in full.

At the end of each month FishingMagic readers will be invited to vote and comment on all of the entries and a monthly winner will be selected by the FishingMagic Editor, whose decision is final.

Each monthly winner will receive a bait pack worth £46 from Chapel Baits which will include: soft hookbaits, groundbait, dumbells and glugs from their extensive range.

At the end of the competition all monthly winners will go into a final judging and the overall winner will win a 12 month sponsorship by Chapel Baits (Full terms and conditions to be advised separately).

Submissions should be sent via e-mail to: editor@fishingmagic.com
