I used to use the Raptor but have drifted over to the Gamakatsu Specialist Wide Gape - both good hooks IMO.

I like Gamakatsu hooks Jerry, I have used their trebles and they are top notch and super sharp!!

Forgot to add that it is mainly hair rigs that I use for bigger fish so would a specialist carp hook be better than a standard pattern such as the SS? I keep looking at the new Drennan Barbel and specimen hooks, they look to be very strong.
Christian, what do you use for your Chub fishing?
Korda size 2 wide gape for bread, meat, cheese paste, locusts, bunches of black crickets.
Drennan super specialists for matching bait to hook in a range of sizes (6 through to 8) e.g. slugs, snails, worm, worm fragments, sweetcorn, bread flake, small bits of meat or cheese paste.
Kamasan patterns for anything smaller - maggots.
Hair rigging? going to try a longer shank hook with rig tubing and shrink tubing to achieve an aggressive turning of the hook. Got some fake bread to try - it looks brilliant!
Yeah, that's the only problem with Kamasan hooks, why do they have to make them that bloody shiny? Love Animals though, great hooks for commercial Carp
Mark big hooks for chub are fine when you're fishing on top of the fish and up to 15-20 yards. But when fishing across the Ribble up to 50 yards you get far to many dropouts even with beaked points. And now why I use smaller beaked wide gaped hooks up to 8s max. Virtually eliminated the dropouts by going smaller, 12, 10s.
I've been using the ESP t6's barbless for years with no problems.
Yeah, good hooks by all accounts Fred, I like the pattern, just right for hair rigging...Why cant the general specialist coarse hooks have in-turned eyes?
The B983 looks a good Chub hook?
Use the same hooks for my chub too, keep it simple!
If it works don't change it.
Good timing this, need to buy some hooks for the Wye next week, At present t6 and g something esp, korda wide gape 2s [Hold big chunks of meat without a hair]. korum for float fishing which are very good and cheap, I have some drennan and kamasan specimin ones left but they dont seem to stay sharp long, brilliant pattern though and still first choice for softer rivers.
As a trundler a huge chunk of meat [8 to the tin] can be used to pull the lead downstream and certainly accounts for numerous chub and barbel. I am not sure how effective they are for static fishing I certainly find small baits more succesfull then.
