Pro-Gold has been my favourite line when I'm after specimen sized fish for a long time (when I'm not trotting or waggler fishing for them); but as long as you can get around sensors memory problems; it does still get very good marks in many of the line tests, and being very cheap it certainly shouldn't be disguarded off hand too easily as it is a very reliable line.
If I had any severe problems trying to find any of my favourite Pro-Gold and I could only find Diawa Sensor then I would still be fairly confident at being able to land some decent sized fish in a fairly snaggy swims using Sensor.
However as soon as I could I would re-spool straight away with Pro-Gold simply because its the line I have most confidence in and which I know has excellent abrasion resistance, shock resistance, stretch characteristics, knot strengths and relative suppleness compared to a lot of the other lines out there.
Plus it's strength ratings are very under-rated; with its 6lb line breaking at more like 7lb and its 8lb line breaking at nearer the 9 and a half pounds mark etc. etc. and making 'like for like' comparisons with a lot of other lines (which often have overrated bs ratings) fairly pointless.
If (like tigger) I needed to respool each time I went fishing; around 2 or 3 times a week; then I would quite probably end up using a line such as Diawa Sensor too when after decent sized fish, because of its better affordabability and more importantly because of it's fairly good line test figures, and i'd probably learn to put up with its fairly minor memory problems, especially if It was otherwise going to cost me around £20 to £30 per week just spent on line alone LOL.
But thankfully I don't need to put fresh line on my reels every time I use them so I can afford to use a more expensive and much more trusted mono like Pro-Gold (or even Drennan FloatFish if I'm trotting or using a waggler).
