I had the fortune to have a day out with Steve, and was able to hang my nose over his wonderful Hardy rods. It made me make up my mind to by an all out barbel trotting rod.

The only reason I did not buy one like Steve's was the Hardy after sale service, and what's be spoken of before, in this thread. It's so very sad as Hardy had such a good reputation, and only recently turned from all game tackle to coarse as well.

Daiwa can still make rods and tackle in the UK and very high quality stuff too without going oversea for labour?. I'm completely sold on Daiwa now, and for me they have taken over from Hardy as a top brand.

I'd still takes Steve's rods off him however. Shall we say a tenner each, they are well used Steve.:wh

Hardy marksman specialist float 14 ft rod in Original carry case | eBay

An excellent example of why Purefishing are likely to ask as much as they can for the remaining Hardy Coarse gear.

I was watching that just out of curiosity and noticed the bidding was getting a bit warm.

An Ultralite Avon went for similar money a few months ago but was relisted and sold for a much lower price second time around although I've no reason to suspect that the one in your link will follow the same course.

That price was only twenty quid or so off the original Marksman rrp and, I suspect, more than you could pick a new one up for back at the time.

Good to know they're fetching good money :)

You think the rods are expensive?

How about just the quivertip section for £54.95...

Hardy Marksman Glass Quiver Tip 0.50oz | eBay

I was fortunate enough to have been browsing in Fosters a fair while ago and I came across a basket with assorted Hardy quivertips in, probably around fifty in all.

To cut a long story short I bought the one in the link for £25 (still more than enough!) plus a full set of three spares for my Extreme Feeder.

IIRC the rrp back at the time was around £45 per tip.

Steve.

The Daiwa mega tops (simply a quiver tip) are the same £40 a pop. Call it a mega top and it's all bets off. At least **** Turpin wore a mask.:w:w

Even though i've had two Marksman rods(got rid of the match rod, wasn't what i'd hoped for),they are expensive,I have still got my smuggler and even though I don't use it often, wouldn't part with it,seems odd not to buy a Harrison(and there is plenty of choice)and have it made up(got my Torrix from Fosters),at least then if you do a Binka(sorry mate)the blanks are always available,if a disaster strikes to your pride and joy.:eek:mg:
