Hi guys,

I have just found a terrific deal on Hardy Marksman Rods and I am very interested in the 11ft 10inch float rod. Has anyone got any info on this rod?I like the Idea that it has a shorter handle than similar rods.

Thanks

I think I picked one up for a waggle yesterday. Can't say that I was overly impressed, as has been the case with all the Hardy coarse rods. They look nice enough, I'm sure they perform well enough, but the price of them is way over the top.

Way way over the top for cheaply made blanks!!.......you could do what most of us do if we want a shorter handle.......cut it.

I quite like the look of the shorter rod which would be very useful on some of the sections of the Hampshire Avon above Salisbury where the river is not too wide at all.

My Mrs got me a 14ft marksman specimine float (not the later supero) for crimbo. She got it for £200 brand new. I haven't used it yet but look forward to. I'm not being ungratefull but I wouldn't swap a normark for one, that's for sure !
Mark, do yourself a favour and go get yourself a normark m8 :).

Hi Mark,

I can't comment on that particular rod but as you already know i've got three Marksmans and can't praise them highly enough and I have no reason to doubt that the one you're looking at is any different.

It's not really enough to give them a waggle in the shop to appreciate them but when you're holding a fighting fit 18lb Carp right off the edge of some lillies on 8lb line as I was earlier this year (Marksman Specimen Float 13') and the rod is hooped almost to the point of passing the cork handle whilst pumping right through the handle to absorb the lunges and keep it in the open you'll soon come to appreciate their qualities... on that particular occasion my mate had come to net the fish for me but then cleared off out the way as he was convinced the rod was going to shatter and he didn't want to be in the firing line but you just feel in total control.

Edited to add: This was the culprit (complete with shredded lilly) taken on the rod's first outing...

And this was whilst I was happily winkling out small roach on a 3lb bottom on the Specialist Float 13' within a couple of outings of buying it... it's nothing remarkable in itself but a rod that can give the maximum pleasure winkling out small roach and still get you out of the woods when you hit something decent on light gear has to be good...

I won't bore you with the Barbel taken on the Extreme Feeder... :)

Blimay Binka !!...that can't be carbon, it must be a stiff peice of elastic lol.
I must addmitt I was expecting it to snap :). Was that just a section of rod/blank or a full rod and was it a fly or coarse rod ? Pretty impressive though whatever.

Lol... i'm not sure on the type of rod in that clip but I have three DVD's which came with each rod and show a similar thing which i'm sure are based on their float rods and having been in the position with a fish on the end i've no reason to doubt it, if I hadn't watched it before using the rod I would never have given it that much wellie but thought to hell with it and was very pleasantly surprised, especially as the rods are equally at ease coping with light hooklinks without cracking off on the strike or breaking on turbo charged runs.

Your missus deserves a bottle of wine... :w not only for the great pressie but as a soother when you start buying throughout the rest of the range because she won't be pleased when you do, and you will ;)

I couldn't tell you to be honest, I noticed that the Superos are slightly cheaper and assumed to myself that this was just market positioning and that these were the new Marksmans to keep them selling but again I couldn't confirm as I don't know if the Marksman are still the current flagships although the Hardy website still lists them, Hardy Coarse Fishing - Home, I know the XT range was brought in as a "fighting range" within that respective price bracket.
