Burbot were considered extinct in UK when I first read about them in the. 1970s ... I've not seen anything to contradict that.
There were Bitterling in the Lancaster canal when we fished s national in the early 90s. We caught plenty on joker. Very dainty and pretty fish.
There are loads of dace in the Great Ouse, Warks Avon, Severn and Wye. They seem to have a lifecycle of about 5 years in terms of prolific shoals in those rivers. I've seen a couple of proliferations and subsequent droughts where they almost disappear from the river.
I've only ever caught one miller's thumb by angling, and no loach or lamprey.
Proper silver bream anyone? We're the Trent fish of 30 years ago silvers or hybrids? They were certainly prolific .... Don't see them these days.
