you are bidding for a cane rod and refurb kit donated by Gary
Gary says "Hi Cakey

Have taken part in the annual auction for the last few years now and won some wonderful days out along the way. Spent a great day in a boat with Richard Farrow at Blenheim last year thanks to the auction.

Had a dig around to find something really worthwhile for inclusion in this years auction.

This item is for those people who would like to ressurect an old cane rod to its former glory and enjoy the process along the way. We have here then an F T Williams split cane rod marked as 'The Dorset'. The rings are all rusted so I have included a new set of rings and some silk to whip them on with. One of the ferrules is split so I have also included a brand new set of ferrules. There you have it, a complete set up bar the varnish. The cork will need filling but that can be done quite easily, a quick look on eBay came up with a number of cork dust items for sale. Happy bidding.

Hope this helps?

Gary

Now that's a handsome donation.
I'd bid but I know it will go for a loooooot more than the fiver I can afford !
Let alone the fact that the other 'arf will kill me if I buy any more rods :wh.

Aaawwwwww! Don't you feel sorry for him?

But he's right, it will now go for twice as much as he can afford, AT LEAST!

My bid is a whopping tenner, yes, ten loverly smackeroonies. £10.

Note: ends 21/4. Just in time to support me runner beans ready for the summer.... :D

Well, as I'm not going to Clattercote this year and so won't be donating to Stu Dexters' retirement fund (again) or paying match fees, or having breakfast, I'll bid £15.......!!

Yes, F.T. William's Dorset is a float rod, and you won't find that silk too easily, either. Those ferrules alone are worth £30, the rings £20, and the rod plenty more.

I'll bid £35.

And I bet I don't win it.......

Here's one for sale.......perhaps a little ambitious in price....

Funny, I always think of F.T.Williams as being based in Walton on Thames, where they were famous for their Thames style match rods. W.on T was in Surrey then, as it is again now, having spent 30 years or so as part of London, though keeping the Surrey address...perhaps this is one of the last rods made then ??????

I believe it's Gudebrod silk (the best) and there's plenty on Ebay. Pauls Angling Supplies sells it. Limited colours, but he's worth a call.

Thanks for that link IC, but I see it will have to have a Fuji reel seat fitted, easy since the rings are coming off, but got to build that in to the budget! ;) :D

just so that nobody feels agrieved I must let you know that, the Gudebrod whipping material is actually class A Nylon. There are two spools of 50 yds. The ferrules were imported from the States via eBay. They will need to be lapped as they are a very tight fit. There is an extra ring in the set of eyes, the originals on the rod amount to nine including the tip so there is the scope to play with the eye setup.
The cane is straight and has a nice overall colour. This was going to be my own spring/summer project but workload, a new house and the infinite number of jobs the wife keeps finding for me, means it would still be sat there next year.

By my calendar it's April 19th. Why has the auction closed? Or am I being slow on the uptake again?
