Thumbs up 9LB 5oz River Lea CHUB!!!

    Hi all,
I was shocked this evening when i was told this evening, by head bailiff - Steve Evans, that Neil Stephens caught a 9lb 5oz chub this morning at the Fishers Green complex on the river lea, waltham abbey, essex.

By all accounts it has has been widespread knowledge today at the fishery and surrounding area/tackle shops...

The huge chub was caught from the bottom end stretch of the the river either from the "secret" swim or just above the confluence on legered cheesepaste.

Steve added: " he got a call to witness the fish along with another angler and after it was weighed, apparently in a wet tesco carrier bag!!, (Every Little Helps), and witnessed and photographed it was then reported to Andy from the BRFC."

I would also like to say congratulations to Neil Stephens, can't wait to see the pics in the press.

It's magnificent capture, but putting swim details out in the public domain, whether they're true or false, is a particularly stupid thing to do.

I agree Si, but TBH these things seldom stay truly secret for long, word always gets out.
I wonder how long it'll take before the swim gets an AT reporter camped out in it; like on a Yorkshire trout water for a pike and the Loddon for a big chub.....

The sad and rather pathetic side of specialist angling.

Year before last some idiot made a video with AT of an 8lb capture plus a step-by-step stills guide to fishing the named swim at the Green. The queue went round the block. What's the saying about not defecating on your own doorstep?

There's a difference between a few dozen "regulars" knowing the exact details and a few tens of thousands.

The way the drought's going it probably won't make much difference though since the Green will shortly be a handful of isolated pools.

I think I shall transfer all my captures to the 100+ acre lakes there in future and start the Stillwater Chub Society.

As usual someone does something really special and before you know it someone else is using it as an excuse for a moan.
Fishers Green is and always has been well on the radar be it for big Chub or Barbel.
FG needs all the help it can get from club tickets being sold, it can't be one of those nice little places for a few locals to keep to themselves.
There have always been people giving it a try because of catch reports, they come and go and most give up very quickly because they have neither the patience or skill.
As one of those who have had the opportunity to catch one of the really big Chub there I would not want to deny anyone else of that pleasure by keeping quiet, those days should be over. That course of action is a very quick route to misery and I should know.
If people think that by sitting in one swim based on past catches is going to work think again! Those Chub swim miles in the old river and up and down the Relief Channel.
Well done to the angler involved I will certainly have a beer to celebrate at Twickenham this afternoon

I hope you are celebrating more than just that Chub at Twickenham this afternoon . . . .

Scholars have long known that fishing eventually turns men into philosophers.

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to buy decent tackle on a philosopher's salary. ~
