BARGAIN OF THE YEAR, was had today at my local tackle dealer’s. Went in looking for a 3pce 12ft match rod and looked at an older DAM that was very nice but was also 13ft. Also waggled a Maver Abyss 12ft that was okay. Next up was a Drennan Acolyte that was like a feather with a backbone of titanium but was a 2pce and I just don’t do 12ft, 2pce rods. So into the bowels of the stockroom went Ray and came out with two musty old bags which both contained Harrison Rods. The first one was made for Ray by Steve Harrison and was 12ft comprising a 5ft middle and tip and a 2ft handle section. Understandably Raymondo was reluctant to part with that but he sold me a 12ft GTi Match with a spliced tip and I gladly parted with £50 for the privilege.

Chuffed? You bet!

Popped into Harrison’s on Friday to buy a rod bag for the GTi as the one with it was rotted. Got a very nice Velcro jobbie for £9 and was reminded (as I’d forgotten) that my 14ft MAP Dave Harrell Match is also a Harrison rod. Knew there was a reason I love it so much!

There are some CC round here it appears....though the tackle on offer seems, on the whole, to be junk. Not enough for me to go have a looksee anyway having seen where the shops are. I dont need a bargain that badly.

I pass one every Monday and always pop in. The rods are all rubbish but there’s always gems to be had in the reels. I’ve bought 6 in the last year and 4 have gone for good profits on eBay and 2 I’ve kept for myself, a Shimano and today’s Ninja. I don’t need the money, eBay is a bit of a hobby to provide a balance in my PayPal account that goes back into fishing purchases.
