Precisely, Neil. It just annoys me that so many anglers just sit on the sidelines sniping. How can they expect ATr to achieve great things if they don't join and give it the funds to do them? And if you don't like what you see, the only way to change the organisation is to join. What's that old adage about paying the piper?

To all those who have been critical of ATr I say this; pay your £25 and give yourself some power. Then you can legitimately take up your problems with Mark Lloyd's team.

Couldn't put it better. There are a lot of people who sit and state a problem. Then asked what is your solution, say dunno not my problem. The day the anti fishing lobby get to a govt' or a water company poisons a fishery it will be those people who blame everybody else accept themselves for not being a part of preparing for the problem, because these are the people who really think the world should do everything for them, but are the wasters who squander everything put in front of them from our wonderful sport to their free education.

We need a single voice for our sport. It is not just about the 'now' it is also about the possible future. For sure they will get things wrong, they may be ineffective at dealing with some things .......... but they are trying to be effective at dealing with everything. If we support and positively help or suggest then they WILL do it and their is enough of a track record to prove it in my eyes.

Personally I think it was an incredible achievement just amalgamating the different groups for starters. The Angling Trust is one of the great developments in our sport and we should all help to get it right.

What you Guys and Girls are doing is an inspiration to me up here in Lancashire, fantastic work, website and great to see so many of you. Keep up the good work.
Andy and all from Colne Water Angling Club & Trout in the Town Colne.
To say camping is a big part of the Ross County Fair is like saying ketchup and mustard are big parts of the perfect hot dog. The two just kind of go together.

Apologies for bringing this back up the order again.

One of the criticisms aired was a lack of notice for the AGM. I assume that all members got this but from the e-news I received on 2nd March:

‘The Annual General Meetings of the Angling Trust and Fish Legal will be held on Saturday 21st of May 2011 from 1pm until 4.30 pm at The Studio in central Birmingham, walking distance from Birmingham New Street station. We hope that you will be able to join us.’

They do seem to be making the effort.

I get one email for the three registrations I have, personal, club and consultative. When I queried it the answer was that the system cuts out the duplicates, not based on email address but other data. I assume that is what has happened to your mails.

If you have circulated any complete to anyone and they have clicked on the unsubscribe button you won't get them again until you ask Will to re-install you. So copying stuff onwards it is important to cut and paste, then edit the unsubscribe piece before sending, rather than simply use "forward".

Happened to me and I was not seeing issued press releases but was seeing drafts.

The Angling Trust is now welcoming anglers, both members and non-members to join them on twitter.com/anglingtrust and facebook.com/anglingtrust :)

Well that be only until someone rips into them for all the failed promises they made at the start of the ATr Brave New World.

Anyway I've spent their subs on a kayak to fish from.......its the next big thing didn't you know? And the ATr are in love with this type of angler because there's 800 of them. ;)

a Kayak for 25 sobs bad one, I'd check for leaks!
Yep it's got as many holes in it as the promises made when the ATr was being set up, now broken like the kayak I bought with the subs.
Difference is, I'm quite handy with the David's epoxy and glass and can fix them. ATr and broken promises carn't ;)

And they even had the cheek to send me a reminder I hadn't renewed.....Doh what don't they understand about the words "I'm not!"

If you turn back the calendar about 3 years or so and take a look at those people who were actively supporting the formation of the Angling Trust, you will find both John M.H, and the Bad One (Phil) right at the front. In fact we went 'toe-to-toe' on many Angling Trust related topics for quite a while.

In many ways it was both John and Phil, together with another angler who I greatly respect, who made me change my mind over membership.

So, to my mind it is a very sad state of affairs to see them now leaving the Angling Trust with their hopes dashed.

Peter your right, and along with you, i also didnt agree with the bad one and Co, but unlike you, i stuck by my guns, and havent joined.

I was at the five lakes show at the weekend, join the AT and get £40 worth of bait free.

I didnt see anyone at the AT stand joining, thats not to say people didnt join, I was working so hard to tell. They are doing the same again this weekend at the big show, will see how they get on there.

With the very real reduction of influence of specialist anglers/angling within the ATr (a recent e-mail from Ruth Lockwood only confirmed my fears) I can see there now being a real danger of the ATr being pushed into lobbying/campaigning for the scrapping of the current rivers close season for coarse fish.

The SAA was very much 100% in support of the close season (NAFAC sat on the fence) but the NFA and many of the big clubs/associations were for scrapping the closes season, I'm sure we can all still remember the NFA's 'survey' on the close season some 4-5 years ago.

With the silly season fast approaching, and the loss of any voice we ever had within the ATr through the SAFG, I can see there being a much more focused attempt by those only looking at the financial side/argument to get rid of the rivers close season.

Can we have some commitment from the ATr that it still supports/ does support the close season on rivers for coarse fish?

and about time too! Sorry to disagree John, but it's been obsolete since the day keepnets were invented.

It was matchmen that brought it in so if they want to take it out, so be it. Best days work that could happen.

Oops, not the silly season yet.

They should do away with close season, they can not enforce it to many miles of river, and far too many now just ignoring close season and getting away with it EA do not want to know, hence phone calls last year reply we dont have the manpower.

If ATr decide to lobby for doing away with close season i,ll rejoin.

Rivers need a break - not stocked as easily as ponds/lakes etc. Rivers are totally dependant on natural fry recruitment and are struggling in some areas.

Barbel and chub targeted relentlessly for 12 months????? Selfish if you ask me!!! your fishing benefits from the rivers getting a 3 month rest.

Biggest backward step and most devisive action the Angling trust could ever dream of getting involved with...........
