Your 1657m would clunk and rattle like a mitchell match when you shut it with the handle,it's ok,but it is only habit,if you could put up with trying to change it is just as quick,even for bits fishing in a match,everyone to their own mind.

Most of the time I fish without one. I've used it for 99.9% of my float fishing for the best part of 40 years.
