Brief description of the session & remarks:
All anglers around me were catching, but this was my first outing since the Fish In at Press Manor Fisheries. Stopped at the Fishing Lodge on the way back to record my nil return and chatted to the Ranger. He then offered me a complimentary day as I'd blanked, also throw in some tuition too to see where my casting is going wrong. Tiring day.

All anglers around me were catching but not with any great consistency. Had one pull that I missed connecting with. Kept getting birds nests on my leader so very frustrating.

Results:10 trout
Brief description of the session & remarks:
This was our local club competition with 5 boats out. Took 5 trout in 18:00 then another 5 before sunset. Morning and afternoon difficult. Lots of fish caught over aerator pipes in middle of lake. However moved a fish on a damsel on a DI7 sinking line and the hooked three in three casts. Often happens at Draycote! Hooked two more later on, but went back in the evening to a fantastic sunset and sedge rise all over lake. Took fish on an invicta wet fly and weighted stick fly on floating line.
My advice would be to fish the evenings in the summer! Keith Causer at the lodge is knowledge and helpful.
Look at the rise form and any insect around or blown ashore to help you match the hatch. Leaping trout usually mean sedge / caddis. Head and tail rises or sipping insects is more difficult to indentify.Could be terrestials (heather fly, daddy long legs, caenis..) or buzzer, upwing (mayfly, olives). Fish small drys or nympns and cover fish quickly. Keep changing if you don't get any takes...

Bait:Diawl Bach, green buzzer, white & green bunny leech.
Method:Floating line and nymphs, internediate line and Leech
Results:3 fish to 5lb
Brief description of the session & remarks: This marked a milestone in my fly fishing history as I had previously blanked at Draycote up until today. All fish fell to the diawl bach, which was fished on the point, and came in the first two feet of water. Lost a cracker that gave some brilliant runs. Very pleased with the results.
