Jack I am sure there was a review or two of the Quorum going back a good few years, try a search of site reviews!

Cheers, intriguing concept to have 2 butts rather than 2 tips. If Harrison did it, it's probably good!

I'll take your word for it Alan and it's not one I'd go for, if I was only allowed one rod it would probably be the H Specialist 1.5.......................and in the words of Libarace (sort of) - I've got two of 'em;)

Do you know Jerry, ive heard some anglers say the 'specialist' isnt man enough, but for fishing(not casting,as most of my fishing is underarm lobbing)2oz leads or less the rods a gem,and some very big barbel have found it difficult to gain any headway(at all)against it.

Alan, I don't normally talk fish/weight, etc, on line but some that know me on FM (among others) know that I took a 31.02 river carp on a H 1-5t/c specialist (8lb Pro Gold) while barbel fishing - not fluked by the way, spotted and stalked. Aso taken barbel to over 14lb from snaggy weirpools on them.

I had an upper 14 last season in a swim that amounted to a hole in streamer weed, with a tree opposite and thick pokers either end,the fish never made any of the problems, despite a great deal of effort on his part,i liken the specialist to using pole elastic, the fish does'nt realise he is under pressure, because it crept up on him and bit him.:D

Just read your old mail, don't know if you did anything.
I use on tidal trent 2 piece 12 ft 1.75 Chimera to me absolutely perfect, Throws heavy feeders, through action and tip sensitive don't know flows etc on rivers you mention.
If still undecided talk to Bob at Fosters Birmingham

I gave up on the idea of Harrison rods having been indecisive about buying one! First I thought I will ask and find out what all the fuss is about, several reviews later and one or two debates and questions on here. I gave up on the Idea AND THEN! A guy I spoke to one day let me hold his Chimera and I was hooked! Did I buy one NO! After a long serious think I decided that there really are better production rods out there for less money. Harrison rods are OK but are very overrated IMO!

What models are you thinking there Mark? I'm not looking for a row btw just wondering? As a Harrison 'fan'.. I own and like some of their rods, but do accept that one man's meat is another man's poison etc...

Hi Eddy,
Well, the one I had a play with was Chimera and yes, it was a really nice rod and a gorgeous looking thing too, and yes I would like one really :)
The reason I could not make my mind up about was the fact that I allready have several ''good'' off the shelf Rods and just could not see the advantage of buying a custom made rod...Even though we all know, you catch better fish when using expensive gear ;)
The Torrix rods are supposed to be the bees knees too?

PS: Eddy, why would you think I would row with you? I am not really that bad you know :)

I have owned 2 Peregrine GTis built on Harrison blanks by Roger McCourtney, one was 1.75tc and the other 2lb and a Harrison 4-piece 9/10 saltwater fly rod and I cannot fault their performance or the quality. I only wish I still had the GTis! :eek:mg:

Couldn't justify the cost of a new one for barbel this time around so got a Fox Twin Tip instead, but I am on the lookout on eBay, Gumtree and the classifieds for any of Dr Steve's creations. Trouble is, so is everyone else! :(

No worries.. the Chimeras are an interesting range.. I bought 2 x Chimera No1's (second hand off ebay about 6/7 years ago) which i use for tench feeder/lead fishing ... I love them they are quite soft and 4/5lb hooklengths are no bother, spot on for tench plodding round under the rod tip (if I could catch one like).

The Chimera no 2, I held but didn't like, although a lot of fellas love them I felt it was a bit too steely for any fishing that I did, a bit overgunned possibly for the severn up this end and certainly so for the likes of the dane imo. Not that I fish for barbel any more really. I also got (2nd hand) the Chimera 3, snag and flood, as a 'stopper' this is good and it also doubles as a method feeder rod too, in fact it could probably chuck deadbaits if you asked it or be used for bass fishing, it's a decent all rounder at the heavier end!

I've held 2 versions of the torrix, my mate PaulM has the 11ft 'Snipers' built by Kev Baynes, they are sensational, and the lads off the site bought the former editor Graham a 12foot Torrix which I think was 1.75TC, again superb, and both were not that much more than Daiwa's top of the range infinity barbel.

Other than that there is my 'Specialist' built by Kev B, that's just ace, and cheaper than a top end shimano/daiwa/tricast.. if they even made something similar which I don't believe they do!

Trouble is, so is everyone else!

Yes they are, I got lucky with my Chimeras, the seller never put 'Harrison/s' in the description, lucky me!

You might get me wondering again Eddy!!

Just ordered the new Drennan Acolyte float rod, picked on up and just had to have one, 14ft great for the old stick float at just over 4 oz!

This might make you wonder a bit more, out of interest I've just had a look on ebay. Daiwa Infinity 'buy it now' price £260 give or take (although am sure you'd probably pick one up cheaper).

BUT... Kev Baynes near Stoke built PaulM's torrix snipers (I think) for £240 a rod with full cork handle! Custom build Harrison vs mass produced Daiwa, no contest in my opinion!

Yep here again - around £210 with a full cork handle on a Torrix 11ft 1.5tc blank. Should I ever have money again it'll be Torrix again as these don't love casting too much (neither do I tbh). Custom built Harrisons - might just change your life..... well a bit... certainly make your fishing very enjoyable!!
