I'm a bit of a creature of habit and tend to use a Kamasan B983 for just about everything, today I found its limits when taking low double figure carp off the surface using hair rigged dog biscuits. On more than one occasion the hook straightened when hooking a bigger fish.

What's out there that's stronger but still lightweight for this type of fishing?

I would just go with a Drennan super specialist hooks.

You mentioned your floater fishing. If your worried about the fish seeing the hook then glue it on top of the dog biscuit and glue a split shot thats heavier in the base of the biscuit. Get the balance right and the biscuit should flip over to float hook side up. Then you can use the heaviest hook you like because they will never see it.

Another vote for Animals. regularly fish them to nylon for trotting the Salwarpe (18's to 2.5 0r 20's to 2.0) sizes go to 12's to 5lb The size 18 eyed hooks can be tied to at least 6lb line (I can't tie spade ends!) and I suspect you would be OK with 8lb although I've not tried it. If using to nylon, the weak point seems to be just below the loop but they rarely unravel at the hook and I've not had one straighten yet (S0ds law will no doubt come into play in the none too distant future)

I have been trying the GURU Super MWG PTFE coated today they are certainly sharp Even after hooking a piece of tree and dragging it in the only thing i would say is they do seem a little on the large side ..the size 20 look more like 18s .
