Just to let you all know,I have managed a fishing trip this morning,my first in ages, owing to a serious foot injury.

I went to the Thames at Kelmscot and caught my first ever barbel, all 6lb of it.IT was the most beautiful fish I have ever caught.

Congratulations and well done.

Best way to start, like I did, with a small one and then work up. Try next for a 7, then an 8, then a 9 and so on. Little steps and great rewards.

I don't think much of the notion that a six-pound barbel is a "small" one; it's only a pound shy of the "Specimen" weight of twenty or so years ago, and is still a fine fish. Well done, that man!

Now everybody will be fishing with that rig......mark my words, you'll be sorry you let all that info out in one go!!

Very well done anyway....and unless I miss my guess most people would be very happy with a 6lb'er in these low river conditions...

By the way you didn't mention which swim you caught it from!!!

Well done Beaker, its a lot harder on the Thames to catch any barbel than it is on many other rivers,as already said in these conditions even harder.;)
