I much prefer to tie my own and in actual fact, my choices would change according to the season. I spread them out here.
I also fish for Bass in the USA and sea fish with fly in the UK.Completely different flies of course.
I'm quite new to tying and am only just grasping tying on wings!
black tadpole-tied with a little flat lead under body. this fly has caught me many trout, it also acts as a small leach imitation in later season. alexandria-a good fyr imitation. black pennal-agood uzzer imitation. small damsel-a favourite fly in every anglers box. white booby-for when the going gets tough, especially when trout lie deep on hot summer days. diawl bach-another good buzzer imitation.
Ron,
Going back to your opening bit, and your comments on the Hawthorn, although I have fished when the fly has been about, and I always found that to fish a couple foot down was far more productive than fishing on top, as on occasions when the buzzer is about during the last hour.
