Years ago there was the plastic tube-weaving and -plaiting Scoubidou craze.
Bingo! Instant, very cheap tubing in lots of colours for modern long- and fat-winged salmon and sea-trout flies, not at hefty-ish a price from a materials stockist but for pence from your local toyshop or some pester power Post Office queue stand.

I feel a lot of pale and bright caterpillar patterns coming on.
