I use the following four rods for my Barbeling and Chubbing, which cover most my needs on the small rivers and streams that I like fishing:
If I did buy another rod for Barbel it would probably be a longer trotting rod of between 15ft to 18ft which would enable me to trot for Barbel and Chub along the far bank a little easier on small streams and rivers; allowing me to keep the line off of the surface in the faster flow nearer the centre.
- A 13ft Drennan MKIV Tench Float rod for trotting a stick/avon/balsa.
- A 12ft Greys Prodigy Specialist Rod which comes with two Avon type tips of 1.5lb and 2lb TC.
- A Greys Prodigy 1.7lb Barbel rod which comes with 1.75lb avon type tip and a Quiver tip (with 3 interchangable quivers).
- A Daiwa 12ft 2lb-tc powermesh Carp rod for fishing floodwater.
