Well, what a valuation day that was! We always love a good valuation day at Thomas Turner but this was different. Normally we get around half a dozen people arranging times to see us on the Saturday and then a few more arrive unnannounced. This time we had the usual 5 or 6 people arranging times to see us but we could almost treble that with the amount of people that arrived unannounced – which was brilliant to see! We always love surprises and Sportfish came up trumps again!

We always aim to arrive just before 9am when Jonathan Randal and his crew arrive to open the front door. Already there were several cars parked up to see us for the valuation day, a great start! We had to ask them to give us 5 minutes to get set up and make an orderly queue!

First through the door was a gentleman with various Sage and Loomis rods in their tubes plus one of the stars of the show – a Hardy Perfect 2 7/8” with 1912 check and original Hardy leather reel case! After a short conversation a price was agreed and both seller and buyer were happy! Cracking start!

We carried on like this for the next six hours buying some lovely Abel reels, a vast array of Hardy reels from the usual Marquis through to the Silex’s and a lovely St George Junior with its leather case! Rods came in their droves buying approximately 30 to include some rare Sage models, Orvis plus the ever-popular Hardy Smugglers, trout and coarse rods plus a beautiful crimson whipped B James R Walker Avon rod.

We purchased a stunning, small collection of Bruce and Walker rods, some Hexagraph Ray Walton two piece rods and Bruce & Walker Specialists, one the rare 15ft version!

Other stars of the show were several Richard Carter Aerials in their original black reel boxes, a beautiful Farlow black Japanned fly reservoir with loads of large salmon flies, Allcock Aerials – including one rare narrow drum model, some rare boxed Abu Cardinal fixed spool reels, again with their original boxes and a fine Dave Swallow centrepin to name but a few!
