How about this anomaly then. We and the continentals buy tyre sizes that are measured in inches for the wheel size and mm for the width.
You can buy a pound of conserve(jam) and other foods in France, and Spanish plumbing in 1/2 and 3/4 which are in fact inches.
Also in Spain windscreen wipers can be in inches.

Most anglere use ten, eleven, twelve foot rods and longer but poles are always metres???.
Reminds me when I was a student years ago when the lecturer told us that "from next year everything is going to be the new metric system" and a wag at the back called out " uh, thats nowt, weve had gas meters at ar rouse for yonks" !.
