The smaller localised groups only really work on a by invatation only crietria, this is not any form of elitism, they just simply work better that way. At its height my own group was 75 strong and really became far too large and involved far too much paperwork just trying to keep members together and we never really fished together in more than a group of twenty, on average over the years I have found about 12 or less members is about right and even then factions can tend to break off into splinter groups.

We also figure that only around two thirds of us will turn up to fish at the same time, so that gives us about enough space to catch a few but stay in touch to learn from each other.

"No more than 10 or 12 should be the guideline. Such groups can ONLY be formed on an invitation basis."

Oh well, I suppose our hotel group is just that (without an official title though)because very few get invited anyway. Only as our guest can you fish and we don't have riff-raff either. Smart dress code for a start not to mention only the very latest tackle, no cane allowed.

The thing with the local group ideology was that they were all members of a collective, that was NASG/NASA/SACG/SAA, as as such they/we collectively got together under the umbrella once a year and generally met other groups, got pissed and talked fishing all weekend, no group is an island, although our group did fish on one once!! We would also proudly carry NASG/NASA/SACG/SAA badges on our person (era dependant of course) and thus be recognised by other umbrella members when we fished the circuit waters of the day ie Roman lakes, Redesmere, LLandrindod, Cuttle Mill etc etc. It was all part of the commeradiree errr crack (cant spell commeradaree)

'I've learned loads from Bob R, Ron, Mike T and others and you will too.' How can we when it's such an exclusive group?

Seriously, hope it all goes well. There's more than enough knowledge and skill inthere for it to work exceptionally well.

Bob - I take it your health is up to it now? Hope so....
