Fred,
Got mine from B&Q. It was on sale
for about ?8 in the gardening
section.Nice long lead on it,and
it records both air and water temp.
Highly recommended.
You need a slow reacting one Fred, overwise the readings can chance as you bring it through the water, some specialist angling ones are available from some of the american companies, cant remember their names though, Harris angling?
Fred,
I've got an old Hardy fishermans thermometer, bought it second hand about 30 years age and its still going strong.
Brass case, it weighs a couple of oz., accurate proper scale (fahrenheit), even has a loop to tie your string to, its the dogs danglies. Well worth looking out for.
I got mine from the local camping shop. About a fiver I think. It's set in unbreakable plastic and has an eye for key fob attachment. I just clip it on to my lead or a plummet. It takes it a fair while to move a degree or two, so I doubt the readings are ever more than about a half degree out.
Fred, I have one I got from Tandy with a small digital readout by a company called SMART. I just picked up a newer version from a store called T.J.Hughes. It's a small weather station giving readings for air pressure trends, temp, humidity, as well as a clock, alarm and a sensor for external readings in air or liquid. It was meant to be ?50, but I picked it up for ?10.
Though on a serious not if you just want one to use at the bank cooking shops sell quite a range of temp probes and readouts...you know the sort ya stick up the turkeys A**e!!!
Kiwi...got one of them, but it only reads in meat,so i can tell if pork chicken or beef is cooked at the right temp, but not if there's any water left in them ;o)
Andy, but is it waterproof?? My old ones somewhere at the bottom of Clattercote,so I wouldn't know, if it told me the temperature, of the water!!
