I have to say that although I've lost 2 cheap bite alarms on the rocks in Fuerteventura, I've actually found more than I've lost - floats (I always have a quick look at the windward end of any pond or lake or take a small spinner to anything out of landing net range); half a rod, for which I made a lost tip; umpteen swivel clips; discarded hook lengths that still look OK;
baiting needles and hooks; bank sticks and tops and a sunken reel that scrubbed-up OK; a sunken large landing net, ditto. All without trying due to my eagle-eyed partner and because we take our dog with us and always scout for discarded hooks around the peg before starting.
Can't grumble really.

A mate of mine on a fishing holiday in Ireland left his bank sticks in the ground on the day before he left.

He went back the following year and they were still there!

An old friend of mine once left his new Barbour jacket on the roof of his van when he drove off a pub car park in Dublin, A week later he had the coat sent back to him via first class post with his wallet, cards and all his money intact!
Why can't everyone be as honest as the Irish (or the Scottish)
