The Dorset Stour , in the nineties on the Throop section , where I caught my first barbel and chub ,then around Iford , nowadays Canford School and above ,much quieter stretches ,not easy fishing but some good pike , chub and perch.

I'll second the Throop section on the stour. I would have a yearly pilgramge to spend a week in a b&b in Christchurch during the late '80s and early '90 and it is still my favourite. Many firsts for me - first barbel, 1st dace over 1lb, 1st chub over 5lb, 1st river pike (12lb) that pulled like a train, 1st roach over 2lb. Them were the days!
