de gustibus non est disputandum

each to their own, I say.

Some like Latin.

Others go for Asians.

You pays your money and takes your choice...

Ron the fundamental flaw in your suggestion is that it only works if both parties understand and know the scientific names of all species.

This is not the case in the main as far as anglers go. A Frenchman, etc, who speaks no English and doesn?t know the SN for chub, would not be able to confirm or refute the presence of such a species in his river.

It gets even worse when the written language is different, such as, Russian, Arabic, etc, they couldn?t even read it, even if you could spell it and write it down for them in English.

That is true of course Phil. What I did say was that the SN for species are recognised by scientists world wide, even in Russia.

As part of my job, I have to be familiar with microorganisms such as cysts and bacteria.

I can assure you that micro biologists in Russia know exactly what Pseudomonas diminuta or Serratia marcescens is, and written in Roman letters too.

And from my little experience in Arabic countries - the scientists there all seem to speak quite good English.
