Hmmm.....He would say that though wouldn't he ? As I said I dont think there is much to choose between the Mk 111 and Mk IV versions when used for the purpose they were designed for ie floatfishing for tench. I'd probably pick the Mk IV as being a slightly better allrounder. If I was short a TF type rod then I'd have the Mk IV simply because I think it is that little bit "sweeter" then the Mk III and has a screw reel fitting which the III doesn't.
I used my IM8 for roach fishing...it was perfectly OK with 2lb bottoms though you did have to be a bit careful. Where I was fishing at the time there was a chance of a very big fish and I wanted something with a bit more oomph than a standard match rod.
Nowadays you're spoiled for choice when it comes to this sort of rod but I'll never get rid of either of these two.
