I'll scale down to a 10 then, I was mounting on a hair rig because the mono I have won't pass thru the eye twice on anything smaller than a 6 so should I move into using braid?

P.S. My water only permits Barbless Hooks, don't u find barbs harder to get out?

again, what bait are you using? and more importantly you might want to scale down on your mono, a good 12lb mono will pass through twice!

sorry, let me see if I've got this right. Your target fish is around 5lb and you are using 12lb line correct?

No, it's just that there is a large head of these 5lb marks and often they can get to the bait be4 the 15-20's

ok, there is the problem matey. You are using match hooks on carp line. Try coming down in line size or move up to carp hooks. The carp hooks (esp, fox etc) are designed bigger eyes to enable to likes of specialised rigs such as D and knotless to pass through twice.

This is strange - I agree with ALL Stuart says.

I also think that barbless hooks damage more fish than barbed and I have caught countless thousands of carp in my life.

I totally refuse to use barbless hooks, even on waters that demand that you use them. I've had a couple of stand up fights with fishery managers in the past.

Modern hooks are actually quite a bit bigger than the hooks we used in the 60s, size for size. Most of my barbelling these days is done with 8s and 10s Big T Raptors and 12 Drennan Super specialists for small baits.

I my opinion, barbless hooks should be banned!!

If you do leave a red mark with the hook, give it a dab of Kryston Klinik. Something every caring angler should have in his bag.

Ditto. But dont rate the Kryston Klinik.Take care with all of your handling/unhooking but also acept that unfortunately some times you will get a bit of bleeding as allready said more common when smaller carp are taken on heavier gear intended for larger specimens.
