Is it well-balanced? What sort of action does it have? Looks like a terrific bargain to me - even comes with a rod and reel sleeve. A pair for less than a ton, an'all. :)

It's really a light avon type rod, but it is quite tippy and handles a stick float close in or waggler up to 25 yards quite well. It might not be the highest quality cork but the blank and handle are surprisingly slim and responsive.
Teamed with a centrepin or a 2500/ 3000 sized reel it balances reasonably.

For 40 quid it compares very well to my duo-lite specialist avon.

P.S. forget the bag/ sleeve provided it's like tissue paper.

I would like to recommend one of the Drennan Red Range "Carp Waggler" rods. Ignore the name, they are actually a really nice all round float rod. About 50 pounds or so.

I have and use the 12ft version for most of my float fishing, but there is an 11ft version as well. One thing to note though is that they are 2-piece rods, so are quite long even when broken down.

Have a look at the Shimano force master 10ft float rod.
I have used mine loads of times this year since I bought it,about thirty five pounds I think.
It has a lovely through action, had plenty of roach and bream etc, plus carp to twelve pounds or so.
Cracking little rod.

Someone has mentioned this rod and it is one that interests me, What do you guys think? 11ft Shimano Forcemaster Ax float road

Shimano Forcemaster AX Commercial Rods – Chapmans Angling

For the money, they are surprisingly good. However, they definitely aren't an out and out silvers rod. If you are stillwater fishing, at relatively short range, with the expectation of catching fish of a pound plus, they may be right. I bought one of the ten footers for my nephew to fish small day ticket waters. It has done him proud. The matching feeder rod isn't bad either.
