Specialist Web Anglers Group

I think we need to clarify the thread a wee bit. The proposed match is between SWAG and RMC. Both are specimen groups with a membership. Not wishing to 'push' anyone out at all, so please don't take this mail the wrong way, pretty please and all that. But the match is looking like a 6 a side, and SWAG has 15 members, so there are going to some 'dissapointed' members as it is.
Sorry to be the 'bringer of bad news' and all that, and sorry if I've hurt anyone's feelings, but I just wanted to clarify the situation before hopes were built up.
Let me say, SWAG is not an elitist group, so I don't want to be giving that impression. Hope this mail is not coming over like that.

Just crusading for my fellow anglers.

By not opening membership to the public, you are forming an "elite" group! U are picking who u want...thats part of being an elitist group!

Being Web based should preclude any requirements other than having access to the web..in reality.

However, I actually wish your group luck and I would be interested in write ups on any fish-ins u have. If you ever want a trip North to get away from the crowds, give me a shout and I will put u on some good waters. I know this nice wee water were 300 pounds of large bream in a weekend is not unheard off :)

Neil, if the rest of the group agree to 8 members fishing then that would be okay by me. It just makes it harder to organise when there are 16 members trying to fish two legs in between other commitments.

Rob, I would word it slightly differently...I wouldn't say SWAG was elitist, but that it's for the elite....for people such as..ermm..arrr..errr..Ok, as Brummie says, we're in early days yet...

Paul, been there, done that...thats why I ended up in Brunei as a jungle survival instructor..lol

I think that is why I enjoy stalking fish so much...lol..I just pretend they are the enemy!

Stewart...so come on then...how does one get an invite?

Must admit that does seem a good question.
How does one become worthy??

We are not as "elitist" as it is being made out or we are inadvertantly coming out as!
There is no criteria other than a love of angling and the use of a PC, so most here would qaulify!! thats the problem! we were soon up to numbers that we had previously agreed to freeze at!
Thats where we are now membership frozen for the time being, not because we wouldn't welcome more imput, it is mainly so that we can get to do a little with each other either in pairs or large groups....the permutations available to us as far as fishing trips and members are concerned is large to say the least!
I'm sure the others wont mind me saying that other possible invitees have been discussed but put on hold for the time being simply because we don't want to get to big to soon.......i bet they are already reaching for the boot polish!!!!!!

Paul has beat me to it and explained the situation. For those who have been on FM since last October, they will remember me putting out several mails concerning a new specimen group that we wanted to start. At that time there was just Paul and myself, we had no agenda or criteria. As we got responses and things began to concrete themselves, the group members felt overwhelmingly that there should be a limit on membership, for the reasons that Paul has described above.
