Which auctions do you use?
I use 2, one was a bit bargain basement but good for picking up the odd bargain and the other has two arms, one a sort of more household goods and the other arm more up market. They have a fine art and antique sale once a month and I try to get my old cane bargains in there and a bit of art work I buy occasionally. They always tell me they don't do well with fishing goods but I usually persuade them and they usually sell with some profit for them and me. I think they sniff at it a bit including my pictures, it depends who is on the "door", one bloke has not much of a clue but if I get the owner he is more likely to take a punt on me and my "junk"!
There are specialist angling auctions around, they have specialist angling auctions about once every 6 months or a year or a month sometimes. Its worth googling for these, they might be near you, I don't use them but would like to, they require me travelling to London or further and I cannot warrant all that cost and bother so I try to stay local but for you, have a google. Failing that google auctions and your area, I am sure you will find one or two, give them a go, try them out first with a couple of rods or reels or whatever, see how the land lays and which auctions you like or do best in. Once you try it you will get more used to them and how they work. Mind you they do charge a premium, 17-22% or something like that but, I don't mind, as far as I am concerned I am paying for all the hassle removed from me.
If you have a lot of stuff too sell and don't want all the bother of advertising, wrapping it all up and dodgy postal fees etc., they might be for you. Just take your stuff along after checking their valuation times on line, they don't charge for that and then see if they will accept your item/s. That's all you have to do and register with them with your bank details as well so they can send you money. You can even view the auctions on line with some of them, "easyauctions.com" and watch your items sell or not from home. However, I like going there and make a bit of a day out, usually with my mate and we have a bit of a laugh at the same time.
Over to you...
