There is snobbery in all aspects of our sport, and fly fishing is no different. It just comes across in different ways and some are worse than others.
I have seen the snobbish attitude inside the Game fishing sections of tackle shops. Of course it exists, and always will.
<u>Example.</u>
The layman goes into a shop and asks for a certain material. Because the purchaser does not dress properly or speak as what is right an proper, he is frowned upon by the owner and belittled in front of the more proper and decent chappies who obviously know it all.
Yes snobbery does exist in fly fishing.

If a customer has money to buy, no tackle shop is going to turn him away or give the impression that his face doesn't fit. It would be business suicide.

There are two tackle shops near myself who specialise in fly tackle. I have been in them often. The advice being given out by the proprietor to anyone who walks into his shop would astound you. It's got nothing to to with the way the prospect speaks or how he dresses.

I often deal with Steve Parton by mail order. The service that this man gives to anyone enquiring about gear is incredible. Steve is one of the most down-to-earth characters you will ever meet. He calls a spade a shovel in no uncertain terms.

And now the truth.

Ed was dressed very smartly in a Donegal tweed cap if I remember. In fact I complemented him on his cap. He certainly looked the part.

The only reason I did not join Ed for a while was that I was side tracked in the fly tying marquee.

Couldn't find him after that.

And I was going to buy him a Welsh Oggie!

I have only just read kevins article. And personally I agree with everything he has said. I only have one small criticism in what he has written, and that is to say he has been to kind.
Many Trout waters do not alow lures. So what is a bluddie viva then? or a dog nobbler?

Ron, you can run but you can not hide. I could rip you to pieces over your last few postings, they are all flawed.

Ed, I've just got three photo's of Ships Cat.
I came back from the shop and she was bending over in the garden. That was photo 1 and 2.
Number three required a bit of cunning, as I wanted a close up for you without her knowing it.
I pre focussed the camera at a spot where she I guessed she would be standing if I shouted her over, then stood the camera on top of the wheelie bin.

I shouted to her in a low voice so she couldn't quite hear me, and sure enough she came closer. I had a job keeping my face straight but i managed it and took the photo.
She didn't have a clue what I was up to. She thought I was just being friendly.

You have had a laugh and a joke with me on FM Ron, you are a good sport and have never got the hump when I have had a bit of a fun pop at you.
You have also answered some technical questions on angling which I have asked.
Your political views are your own, the choice of where you wish to reside is your own. It stands out like a sore thumb when someone fires off an ignorant rant against another persons right to freedom.
Anyway Ron, I shall continue to seek some technical advice in the future, and continue to harangue you tongue in cheek of course.
