THE “KING OF CLUBS” – Ireland’s premier angling festival is to honour the memory of John Croasdale with a special trophy as part of this year’s event.

The Preston match fisherman aged 52, died in June this year following a short illness, had taken part in the King of Clubs for more than 20 years.

Tourism Ireland and Irish Ferries wanted to honour his memory and after consulting John’s wife, Shirley, decided to present the overall winner of the 2007 King of Clubs with the John Croasdale Memorial trophy.

“John was typical of the loyal angling supporters of this championship and it seems fitting to mark the occasion in this way”, said Ann Pye of Irish Ferries.

Fishing Venues 2007
There will be little change to the proven match venues around Gowna, Carrigallen and Arva, although a final decision will not be made until September when water levels should be back to normal and the fishing at its very best.

The Prize Money
There is £ 3,000 guaranteed for the overall winner – along with the John Croasdale trophy – from a fund based on the return all entry fees PLUS £ 2,500 sponsorship cash from Tourism Ireland and Irish Ferries. Based on 150 anglers taking part that would create a cash fund of £ 17,000 PLUS optional pools.
