Adobe Photoshop CS, which is version 8 in old money, is a considerable upgrade from version 7 and is part of the Adobe Creative Suite which combines full versions of Adobe Photoshop CS with ImageReady CS, Adobe Illustrator CS, Adobe InDesign CS, Adobe GoLive CS, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional, and the new ‘Version Cue’ file version manager.

Anyone who is seriously into graphic design and photo editing will be fully aware of Adobe Photoshop, photo editing software that is widely accepted as the industry standard.

Photoshop is not aimed at those who want to do simple photo editing (although it is more than capable of that) but more for those graphic designers who want to produce the ultimate image. In spite of it being overkill I use Photoshop to make images more acceptable on FISHINGmagic, enhancing poor images or editing good images to a form that doesn’t break the back of hard-working PC processors or make downloading web pages a long wait.

What I like about this latest CS version is that many of the new introductions are aimed at digital photographers, which most of us who use computers and the web certainly are.

What I like in particular about the new version is the Shadow/Highlight, Lens Blur and Match Colour adjustments which have made it so much easier for me to produce a good image from one that would normally have ended up in the recycle bin.

It’s a steep learning curve to learn how to use Photoshop, but a curve that is well worth following if you want to know how to use the ultimate in photo editing software.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

I can’t possibly describe all that Photoshop does, or even all the major improvements. The program is massive and I don’t know anywhere near enough about it to do it justice. I’m no graphic designer and I have only scratched the surface of this giant amongst photo editing software. But almost every time I use it I uncover another gem that makes this the graphics programs that leads all others.

All I can say is that if anyone has the readies to spare then Photoshop is the ultimate. There is nothing better.

Apart from the price, the only downside is the steep learning curve. But what else can you expect?
