The 630-lot catalogue has been compiled by top sportingauctioneers Midlands based, Mullock Madeley. Says auctioneer, JohnMullock: “We have a tremendous collection, including an outstandingfine Hardy all brass Salmon Fly Reel dating back more than 100 yearsto 1896 and expected to make between £1,000 and£1,500.”

Other notable reels to be sold at the auction, on Saturday,September 8 at Shropshire’s Ludlow race course, include a scarceAllcock Aerial reel circa 1925 and a rare six-inch sea reel by W.J.Cummins, both expected to realise around £500.

A stunning original oil on canvas, titled “Just caught” by RolandKnight, is expected to rise to between £1,500 and £2,000.Measuring 14 inches by 20 inches the painting has recently beenprofessionally restored.

Whilst nothing is ever certain when items go under the gavel,there are a number of paintings and reels well within the reach ofthe average pocket. Says John: “We have an original watercolour byJohn Searl showing Pike, Barbel, Perch and Dace swimming in the riverwith tree and field background, and another watercolour of BrownTrout and Fly, both expected to attract around £100. There are anumber of beautiful and some unusual brass and mahogany reels alsolikely to be bought for around £100.

A number of big bids are likely to be landed by an outstandingcollection of cased fish. Pike include a 24lb caught in 1947, a 20lbcaught in 1926 and a 28lb caught two years ago. “We also have RainbowTrout and Bream, both in bow fronted cases, with the Bream caught in1895 in Boston and cased by J. Cooper & Sons of London.”
