An Angling Times junior reporter has been suspended following the scrapping of an entire print run causing the paper to be distributed a day late.

The reporter, writing about the Disabled World Angling Championships, used a slang word concerning the disabled that was considered ‘inappropriate’. The word was not picked up by the sub-editors who check for such errors.

As a result the entire 85,000 print run was recalled and scrapped. Several hundred copies did reach newsagent’s shelves but were immediately recalled and replaced.

A spokesman for Angling Times said the mistake happened because the team were relatively new to the Sunday shift.

An internal inquiry has been mounted and the reporter suspended.
