Bicester angler Neil Jones fished a stretch of the Great Ouse – ‘not the famous Adam’s Mill stretch above Bedford’ – for barbel and netted one that weighed 15lb 6oz.
It was his first time on the stretch and he used his late father’s fishing rod to leger a lump of John Baker’s Search 4 paste on a 4 hook to 15lb Silkworm braid to 10lb mono line.
‘It’s the biggest barbel I’ve ever seen.’ Neil said.
