BFW says:
The barbel elips are high quality pellets that have proved to be one of the most successful barbel baits available.

The uniquely shaped pellets contain a carefully balanced protein and oil ratio which has proved to be an excellent nutritious barbel attractor.

A new improved elips pellet will supercede the original elips for the 2005/2006 barbel season. The shape and the actual ingredients within the pellets are identical to the existing elips although the protein/oil ratio is marginally different which means a slight variation in colour to the original recipe.

The pellets have accounted for thousands of barbel catches over the past few years including many specimen barbel from many rivers across the UK.

The introduction of the pellet into most swims seems to have amazing results, often with barbel becoming completely fixated on devouring the pellets!

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

I’ve tried them and I’ve caught on them, including an upper Trent double from a new swim.

I fished them singly, drilled and hair-rigged and used two side by side by gluing them to the hair. I’ve also used them with a bait band. My preferred method is to pull a bait band through the drilled hole of one or two pellets and use a hair stop if there’s weed around. You don’t need the hair stop if the swim is clear, the band being tight enough to hold them.

Upper Trent double caught on Elips

Unlike some brands the pellets don’t crack easily when drilled and these have a greater oil content than most. They’re certainly a good quality pellet with a shape that makes them different. Whether that shape is more acceptable to wary barbel I don’t know, but it certainly didn’t do me any harm. Chub love them too!
