Warlingham & District AS last night agreed to scrap membership fees for juniors under 12 in a bid to encourage new anglers into the sport.

This is in line with the Environment Agency’s policy not to levy a charge for under 12s. Although 10 and 11 year-olds will be the main beneficiary, under 10s will be allowed to join provided they have a responsible adult with them.

“There are various initiatives going on to attract youngsters into angling and I was delighted when one of our new Committee members, Nigel Duff suggested the idea as this is just the sort of fresh thinking we need,” said secretary Dave Harper. “With my NFA coach hat on, there is a general need for clubs and societies to open their doors and make children feel welcome to the sport. So many times we have had taster days and that’s it, there is no follow up. This way youngsters can progress and WADAS has all sorts of dedicated events for juniors,” he added.

The new policy starts for the season 2003/2004.
