Martin Allerton saw fish crashing through the surface in front of the swim known as ‘The Captor’ on RMC’s Horton Church Lake.

Martin and his big common
So he upped sticks from where he was fishing and slipped round to offer a single Nashbait Formula 1 boilie.

It was 11.15am before the fish finally accepted the offering, and Martin was up a tree at the time, doing another spot of spotting.

So he launched himself out of the tree to deal with the screaming run and landed straight in a bed of nettles, which only added to the screams that could be heard from man and reel.

Martin commented,” It was the best fighting fish I’ve ever caught, I got it to the net about 6 times, only for it to power off on another 25 yard run. What made it worse was that we clearly saw it close in every time so we knew it was a 30+ common.”

The fish was finally netted by Horton regular Robbie Stoddart.
