Match Seven In This Eight Match Series

Last week Gwinear Fisheries threw up some impressive weightsleading up to the start of the festivals at the Whiteacres Complex. This week sees Whiteacres itself as the venue, so would the fishing be asgood? With the effort put in by Clint Elliot and his team it shouldbe, this match would be a good indicator.

Clive Carter won match 2 in this league at Whiteacres with 100lbof fish, but on that day he was nearly twice the weight of the nextangler. Plus the match lake had been drained to about two thirds of itfull level.

This match was to prove a lot more even, with weights overall muchcloser, good news for the forthcoming festival anglers.

The Gwinear Fishery

Onto the match, stand in angler Don Holmes (Tackle Trader Yellow)was top individual on the day with 68lb 8oz of mainly Carp from peg27 Match Lake. Don fished long pole, with corn hook bait. Second wasGary Webber (Cock’s Tackle) Peg 29 Match Lake, with 61lb 8oz. Thirdindividual was taken on Python Lake by Nigel Garret (Milo Oddballs)who framed for the second match in a row from peg 8, with 61lb. CliveCarter was the 4th individual with 57lb 4oz.

Top team on the day was Cock’s Tackle with 31 points followed byBill Knott Bookmakers with 29. Overall the position of the top threeteams has not changed, with Milo Oddballs having a 16 point lead overCock’s Tackle who are on 189. Billy’s team still has an outsidechance of finishing second, but I think with only one match to go thepositions of the top three will not change.

The last match in this league is in three weeks time at Gwinear.

Watch out for the Real Cornwall Winter League result nextweek.

REAL CORNWALL WINTER LEAGUE

Round 6, Oakside Fishery Nr Newquay.

League new boy’s, Phoenix A & B’s sponsor Keith Quinn, MD of the Phoenix Clothing Company presented a new shield to the league today. The shield will be presented to the person who has the highest weight on any one match. Now you can call me a cynical old bugger, but, at the moment the highest individual weight is 48lb odd, which was secured on Gwinears Windsor Lake, by Chris White of Phoenix “B”. Gwinear is the most prolific water on this leagues timetable, but with two matches to go the competition is not over yet.

Onto the match. Chris “Bagger” Bailey (TMS TOADS) is really on fire this season. In practice or match conditions there is no stopping this most likeable of characters. Most anglers in the league dread having to be in the same section as Chris, and it’s not only his sparkling form that puts them off. For our Chris can banter for England. So you don’t just watch him do the business you usually get a running commentary as well.

John Shirley, Phoenix “A”, is Chris’s latest victim. John is no slouch on the bank, but had to watch in awe as Bagger almost double his weight from the next peg. Chris secured “A” section with 11lb 5oz of skimmers and roach on feeder and waggler. Section “B” was won by Dave Taylor (St Columb Magic) with 10lb 8oz of mainly roach with a few skimmers and a slab bream. Dave fished pole at 9 meters with mixed hook baits. Bob Yeomans (RNAS Culdrose) won “C” section with 9lb 10oz, again made up with skimmers and roach on a 6 meter line.

Top team on the day was Phoenix “A” with 28 points, second on weight from Culdrose were Threemilestone Toads, with 26 points.

Overall league positions for the top 3 teams have not changed, but TMS Toads gained 7 points on top team Silver Ball. The TMS Frogs are still in third place.

Next round is in two weeks time at Retallick.

Till then keep it tight and tidy..Paul
