THE REAL CORNWALL LEAGUE

The Real Cornwall League was fished at Threemilestone’s, LangarthLakes and controversy at the start of the day nearly threw thisever-so-friendly (normally) league fixture into disarray. What couldcause such a fuss? Bloodworm and Joker.

This bait is banned on the Threemilestone Fishery, but no officialnotice had been placed on the venue notice board. Plus anglersfishing a pre-match open had asked the club’s match secretary whatban and limits were in place, giving a detailed reply the poor chapforgot to mention the Bloodworm and Joker issue. (I have beeninformed he will be hearing from the club chairman on thisissue).

Chris ‘Bagger’ Bailey

Onto the match. The fishing had improved on the venue throughoutthe week, due to rising pressure and temperatures. The carp in theOld Lake had started to show with more frequency and the tench andbream had been getting their heads down in the Match Lake.

The only problem with TMS with a 3 x 12-man section set up is thatit has to split the “B” section between the two lakes. But as in pastyears the carp in the old lake keep out of the “B” section? How thishappens is anyone’s guess. Chris Bailey (TMS Toads) kept up hiswinning ways with a fine net of silver fish to secure the split “B”section. Mike Frank (Silver Ball) took “A” section with a fine net ofbream and roach. Pete “Smiler” Cash showed the way in “C” sectionwith 25lb 5oz of carp and roach. One of Pete’s carp was 13lb 8oz, notbad seeing he landed it on 6 elastic to 1-7 bottom, size 20 hook.Brave man our Pete!

Mark Barden leading the TMS Frogs
to a fine team second

Top team on the day, and league leaders, were Silver Ball. Secondwere TMS Frogs with TMS Toads, Phoenix “B” and Gwinear were thirdwith 24 points.

Overall individually Chris Bailey is well in the lead, with DaveBonney and Chris White in pursuit.

Overall Team position sees Silver Ball put 12 points betweenthemselves and TMS Toads, who are on 122 points. TMS Frogs have movedinto third spot with 107 points.

Three more matches to go, so there is still plenty of fishing tosee who comes out on top in this league.

What are your thoughts on the Bloodworm and Joker debate? Do youthink it should be allowed? Is it myth or magic?

GWINEAR LEAGUE – ROUND 6

Round 6 sees a return to the sponsor’s fishery, for the Gwinearbacked winter league.

The Gwinear Fishery

With the Whiteacres Festival season due to start in a few weekstime, today’s match would be an indicator to the weights that can beexpected on one of Cornwall’s most prolific fisheries.

Simon Poynter (Retallack Rebels) continued his season-long goldenhand routine and secured favoured peg 36 on the point of the island.Regulars to my column will be aware of Simon’s prowess in both theGwinear and Real Cornwall leagues, and the old adage “put a goodangler on a good peg” was to be true once more with Simon securingtop individual spot with 105lb 4oz. Simon haul was caught in themargins with alternating baits of corn and maggot. 2nd individual onthe day was Nigel Garret ( Milo Oddballs) 66lb from peg 35. Third wasPaul Homewood (Milo Blue) 50lb 10oz.

Top team on the day was Bill Knotts Bookmakers with 29 points.Second were Milo Oddballs who won on weight from St Ives, bothfinishing with 28 points.

Overall standings, Milo maintain their steal like grip on theleague with 174 points, followed by Cock’s Tackle Supplies on 158.Bill Knotts team is in third with 144 points.

There are only two matches left to fish in this league. Next weeksees the lads back at Whiteacres, with the final match at Gwinearafter the festivals.

Until next time – keep it tidy, tight and friendly. It’s onlyfishing.
