Graham with his 5.1

Yes, it’s been a long time since the last diary entry but not because I haven’t been fishing, it’s just that several things conspired against me, not the least being that some of the reports have appeared elsewhere on this site for one reason or another. But last Friday me and Dave fished the Ribble and……

The river was in really good nick and we just knew that we would catch, or at least I was confident enough to say to Dave, “if we don’t catch then we need ******* with the blunt end of a pineapple.”

Anyway, it wasn’t long before the old sphincter relaxed as we both began to bend into a fish or two.

I fished pellets for about two hours on a second rod, just to see how well they did compared to bread and cheese, and this rod was not far from the prime rod that was getting lots of bites on bread and cheese. Apart from the odd little knock or two it did absolutely nothing while the prime rod enjoyed lots of much better bites and was catching the occasional chub.

Strange that, for the Ribble regulars, the locals who fish two or three times a week, swear by pellets for both barbel and chub on the Ribble. As usual though, me and Dave always seem to do better with bread for the chub.

Anyway, we fished for about six hours and ended up with 15 chub between us, Dave nobbling nine and me six, with me taking the best fish at 5lb 1oz. Apart from one of about 21/2 lb, all the others were over 4lb.

It was a good session. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
